Do you know that there are opportunities being offered to you right now? I’m not talking about business opportunities, although that could be included. Life is always presenting us with an opportunity to expand our awareness, change our perspective, and experience life in a different way. We usually call these precious opportunities by another name.
I don’t enjoy having challenges arise any more than you do, but if I’m honest with myself I have to acknowledge that they always lead to expansion and a shift. Big “opportunities” like having a stroke or facing foreclosure may be harder to see in a positive light, but they too are gifts. Both experiences were hell when I was going through them but once on the other side I began to see how they benefited me. Little challenges bring gentler shifts but may be more difficult to recognize.
For example, after two weeks of spring break I was delighted to have peace and quiet (and no interruptions) with my kids back at school. Then my son got the flu. At 9 years old he has a hard time remembering that mom is working and it’s difficult to concentrate on writing or business activities when he keeps interrupting. However, this too is an opportunity. My son will be gone over summer break, visiting his father in another state, and I will miss him terribly. So, is his being home from school really a challenge, or is it an opportunity to spend time with him and enjoy his presence?
This little shift in perspective helped me realize even more deeply that everything I call a challenge is an opportunity in disguise. Some of them invite me to learn new skills, such as the challenge of creating a successful business. Others invite me to enjoy life in the moment, like when the internet goes down and I can’t work online. Health challenges have presented the opportunity to get more in tune with my body and understand its needs, resulting in feeling more comfortable in my body.
What opportunities are being offered to you right now? If it looks like a challenge, you can be sure it holds a gift for you.
